Checkr Unveils Fraud Detection Suite to Combat AI-Driven Hiring Fraud

Share

Checkr, an AI-powered verification platform, has launched its Fraud Detection Suite to help employers identify and prevent hiring fraud throughout the recruitment lifecycle, from applications and interviews to post-hire reverifications. The launch addresses growing threats involving falsified credentials, stolen identities, deepfakes and impersonation, with the FBI and Department of Justice highlighting schemes involving North Korean IT workers using stolen identities to obtain employment at U.S. companies. Checkr’s analysis of customers using its resume fraud detection beta found that 36% of inbound resumes were flagged for further review, rising to 50% for software and AI engineering roles. The suite combines AI-powered resume fraud detection, credential verification, image comparison, deepfake detection, biometric identity verification, device analysis and location correlation to identify suspicious activity across multiple hiring stages.

Its capabilities draw on Checkr’s data graph, which spans billions of records across more than 260 million unique U.S. identities. “Hiring was built for a world where a resume, a video interview and a government ID were reliable proxies for identity. AI has broken that model,” said Daniel Yanisse, co-founder and CEO of Checkr. “Today, a candidate can fabricate not just their credentials, but the identity behind them. A one-time identity check is no longer enough. Employers need more sophisticated and continuous verification methods across the hiring lifecycle to know that the person applying, interviewing and ultimately showing up for work is the same individual.” Datavations’ head of people, Megan Baldock, also emphasized the importance of layered verification to address deepfakes and AI-generated resumes.
