Barrett Business Services, Inc. (BBSI), a top professional employer organization, has launched a new HRIS module. This module aims to modernize how companies handle employee records. The Employee File Cabinet is now part of the BBSI Client Portal. It provides a secure, centralized digital space for storing and accessing important employee documents.
Developed in collaboration with Box, the new module combines Box’s enterprise-grade security and intelligent content management capabilities with BBSI’s integrated HR technology ecosystem. The result is a single, streamlined location where employers and employees can organize and retrieve HR documents without relying on fragmented systems or manual processes.
“Document management shouldn’t slow a business down,” said Chris Richards, BBSI’s Chief Information Officer. “The Employee File Cabinet simplifies and secures how employee information is stored and shared, reducing manual work and giving businesses more time to focus on what matters most.”

By embedding the Employee File Cabinet directly into the myBBSI Client Portal, the company aims to deliver practical benefits across compliance, efficiency, and user experience. Centralized and auditable records help organizations meet regulatory requirements with greater confidence, while reduced paperwork enables HR teams to redirect time toward strategic priorities. Employees also benefit from easier access to their own documents, supporting transparency and faster resolution of routine requests.
Box emphasized the growing need for secure and intuitive people-data management as organizations scale. “Modern businesses need simplicity, security, and clarity in how they manage their people data,” said Jamie Young Perlman, Vice President of Global Go-to-Market Partnerships at Box. “By integrating Box’s Intelligent Content Management platform directly into the myBBSI Client Portal, BBSI is giving their clients the tools they need to confidently manage sensitive employee data securely and efficiently.”
The Employee File Cabinet represents a key step in BBSI’s broader technology roadmap to unify HR documentation across onboarding, applicant tracking, performance management, and related systems. According to Richards, the launch signals a shift toward a more connected HRIS experience. “This release is more than a new feature, it’s the beginning of a more modern, integrated HRIS experience for our clients,” he said.
