ZipRecruiter Brings Breakroom to the U.S., Offering Job Seekers Real Insights from Frontline Workers

Share

ZipRecruiter, a leading online employment marketplace, has launched Breakroom in the U.S., a workplace rating platform designed specifically for frontline industries such as retail, hospitality, logistics, and more. Featuring over one million ratings from employees across America, Breakroom gives job seekers an unfiltered view of pay, schedules, culture, and working conditions—helping them make better career decisions.

Research shows that 70% of frontline workers investigate potential employers before applying, and 84% say employee reviews impact their decision. Yet, 40% question the credibility of those reviews, leading to misaligned expectations—one of the top reasons workers leave within their first 90 days. Breakroom aims to close that gap by offering objective, quiz-based ratings instead of open-ended, often subjective, reviews.

“Frontline jobs account for over 70% of jobs in America. Breakroom brings fresh data on what these jobs really demand—from customer interaction, to time on your feet, to how and when you’re paid,” said Ian Siegel, Co-founder & CEO of ZipRecruiter. “In the months ahead, we plan to integrate Breakroom’s insights directly into ZipRecruiter to help job seekers find the right jobs for them—and help employers hire candidates who are more likely to stay and succeed.”

As part of the launch, ZipRecruiter released the first Breakroom Workplace Index, which highlights improving worker sentiment due to better benefits and development opportunities. However, only 23% believe senior leadership understands their daily work reality, and wage growth remains flat at a $20 median hourly rate—though some lower-wage cities are raising pay to compete for talent.

ZipRecruiter acquired UK-based Breakroom in 2024, which will continue operating as an independent brand while bringing its data-driven transparency model to the U.S. frontline workforce.
