JobLeads is raising concerns about the growing reliance on AI-driven job matching, arguing that many platforms prioritize employer needs over candidate success due to their underlying business models. As artificial intelligence becomes central to recruitment, the company suggests that who pays for these platforms ultimately determines how their algorithms operate.
Most job boards generate revenue from employers through job postings, premium listings, or access to candidate databases. According to JobLeads, this structure creates a fundamental imbalance, where AI systems are designed to filter candidates based on employer preferences rather than support individual career growth. In this model, job seekers effectively become data inputs, with their skills and experience assessed primarily against hiring criteria set by paying clients.
This problem becomes even more evident as the technology develops further. According to studies by the University of Washington, algorithms trained using information from employers tend to reflect the biases present in these organizations. In a particular study, algorithms used information based on white-sounding names 85 percent of the time and male names 89 percent of the time.

“Most job boards optimize for employer satisfaction because that is who pays them. We optimize for job seeker success. That changes everything about how our technology works.”— Jan Hendrik von Ahlen
JobLeads presents itself as an alternative because of its candidate-first profit model where candidates are regarded as clients rather than employers. The new revenue structure enables the company to pay attention to presenting all kinds of jobs for candidates to choose from, including well-paid ones, and jobs that would advance their career in the future.
Access to the so-called hidden job market is another distinctive feature of JobLeads due to its collaboration with over 40,000 recruiting firms. Such a strategy sets JobLeads apart from other companies since they operate only with advertised jobs.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly involved in the job search process, JobLeads insists that transparency about the incentives of platforms is crucial in order to achieve better outcomes in the field.
