Tech Employment Sees Modest Growth as Hiring Demand Strengthens, CompTIA Reports

Technology employment increased slightly in February, in line with an uptick in the level of hiring demand that is expected in the coming months, based on the latest figures from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and an analysis from CompTIA. The technology sector created an estimated 5,100 jobs in February, driven by increased hiring in the field of IT and custom software services and systems design, where there was an increase of 5,900 jobs. Overall, there are over 5.2 million individuals currently working in the technology sector, both technical and non-technical roles. Technology employment in various industries has shown significant growth with an increase of 60,000 jobs.

The unemployment rate among technology professionals has shown a minor rise to 3.8%, though this is still below the national unemployment level. The demand for technology professionals from employers is also increasing with an active job posting rise of 9% in February to 505,045, with over 230,000 jobs being added. The U.S. metro area has seen strong growth in job postings. New York City leads with a 33% increase. Employers want to hire tech professionals for roles like software developers, systems engineers, cybersecurity experts, tech support staff, and AI engineers. Additionally, many job postings are no longer requiring a four-year degree.
