Talent experience leader Phenom has launched the industry’s first Fraud Detection AI Agent, designed to safeguard hiring processes against increasingly sophisticated candidate deception, including deepfake interviews and identity fraud.
According to Gartner, by 2028 one in four job candidates worldwide will be fake, a crisis that could cost U.S. employers millions annually. Phenom’s new AI-driven solution addresses this risk head-on, detecting fabricated resumes, AI-generated interview responses, and imposter applicants in real time.
“Organizations need to address the surge in sophisticated hiring fraud, particularly in industries where workers handle highly sensitive information or organizations that depend on remote work,” said Kumar Ananthanarayana, VP & GM, Product Management at Phenom. “Our Fraud Detection Agent is the answer. It goes beyond detecting resume embellishments, flagging AI-generated responses during interviews and identity switching throughout the hiring process.”

The solution integrates with Phenom Interview Intelligence, analyzing live video interviews to flag suspicious behavior. Key capabilities include:
-
Identity & Location Verification – using facial and voice recognition to confirm candidates remain consistent throughout the hiring process.
-
AI-Response Detection – identifying unnatural pauses, overly formal phrasing, or structured replies that suggest AI assistance.
-
Multi-Modal Cross-Checking – validating resumes, portfolios, and interviews to detect inconsistencies.
Post-interview, recruiters receive detailed reports consolidating fraud indicators, ensuring human oversight in final hiring decisions.
The launch comes as fraud risks rise across industries such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and retail, where compromised hires can jeopardize sensitive data and operations. The threat extends to national security as well: the U.S. Department of Justice has accused North Korean operatives of infiltrating U.S. companies by securing IT roles with stolen or false identities.
By equipping employers with real-time alerts and post-interview insights, Phenom aims to reduce costly mis-hires, protect sensitive data, and maintain trust in hybrid and remote recruitment.
The Fraud Detection Agent will be showcased during Phenom’s AI Day on October 1, highlighting practical AI applications in HR.
