Thunes, the global payments network, has partnered with Ontop, a U.S.-headquartered payroll and financial services platform supporting remote talent in over 150 countries, to provide real-time payouts for freelancers and remote workers worldwide.
By integrating Thunes’ Direct Global Network, Ontop users can now receive instant payments in local currencies directly to bank accounts in markets including Costa Rica, India, the Philippines, South Africa, Vietnam, and the UK. This eliminates the delays and inefficiencies often associated with traditional cross-border transactions. The initiative follows Thunes’ acquisition of Money Transmitter Licenses in all 50 U.S. states earlier this year.

With freelance work and global hiring on the rise—1.57 billion people, or 47% of the global workforce, are self-employed according to the World Bank—the partnership aims to empower businesses to scale quickly while improving payment accessibility for workers, especially in emerging markets.
“Fast, reliable, and inclusive financial access is no longer a nice-to-have, it’s foundational to the future of global work,” said Thomas McAllister, Chief Financial Services Officer of Ontop. “Partnering with Thunes allows us to deliver exactly that: real-time payouts, in local currency, to the people building the global economy.”
