In a significant move to deepen its fintech footprint, Acrisure has acquired Heartland Payroll Solutions from Global Payments Inc. for $1.1 billion. The deal, aimed at expanding Acrisure’s offerings in payroll and human capital management (HCM), targets small and mid-sized businesses seeking streamlined, tech-driven back-office solutions.

Heartland, which serves over 50,000 clients including major brands like Marathon Petroleum and Burger King, will be rebranded following the acquisition. Vince Lombardo, formerly President of North America Merchant Solutions at Global Payments, will assume the role of CEO for the new entity.

“This significant acquisition accelerates our successful transformation into a fully scaled and diversified fintech platform,” said Greg Williams, Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Acrisure. “We prioritize the needs of our clients and increasingly, that’s a tech-oriented solution that streamlines their back-office operations in important verticals like payroll, compliance, and billing.”

Expected to close in the second half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals, the transaction also includes a strategic partnership between the two companies. Global Payments will continue offering integrated payroll and HCM services to its merchant clients through its alliance with Acrisure.

The acquisition follows Acrisure’s recent $2.1 billion funding round led by Bain Capital, boosting the company’s valuation to $32 billion. For Global Payments, the sale allows a sharper focus on its core payment processing business, with proceeds earmarked for shareholder returns.

The move marks another milestone in Acrisure’s evolution from an insurance brokerage into a comprehensive fintech powerhouse with offerings spanning insurance, cybersecurity, real estate, and now, advanced payroll and HCM solutions.
