BDO USA has unveiled a comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) strategy designed to enhance operational efficiency while upholding ethical standards. The initiative includes the appointment of Mike Gerhard as Chief Data and AI Officer, leading the firm’s data analytics and AI efforts. Gerhard oversees the Research and AI Development (RAID) team, focusing on rapid prototyping aligned with business priorities.
Key components of the strategy involve the deployment of AI tools such as Chat BDO, a secure, internal generative AI platform developed with Microsoft Azure AI, which has saved professionals over 600,000 hours since its 2023 launch. Additionally, the Consultative Selling Account Insights tool leverages AI agents to analyze extensive data, enabling quicker and more informed client recommendations.
BDO’s approach integrates AI into existing systems to augment human capabilities, aiming to free professionals for more strategic tasks. The firm has also implemented a Responsible AI governance framework and an AI learning curriculum for its staff.
