Wellness Workdays Launches ‘Strong Minds, Safe Sites’ to Tackle Mental Health Crisis in Construction

Share

Wellness Workdays has launched a new program to tackle a key issue in construction: worker mental health. Strong Minds, Safe Sites offers mental health resources. It provides trauma and grief counseling. The initiative also includes training in psychological safety. It aims to enhance employee well-being and improve jobsite performance.

The construction industry is one of the toughest industries in the United States in terms of physical and emotional challenges. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the construction industry has the second-highest rate of suicide compared to all other occupations. This is four times higher than the average rate of suicide in the general population. Research also indicates that enhancing psychological safety can assist in reducing workplace incidents and safety rule violations.

Strong Minds, Safe Sites was created as a result of the above challenges. The initiative provides construction companies with a systematic approach to address grief, trauma, stress, and mental health.

“Safety is not just physical; it’s emotional and psychological,” said Debra Wein, CEO and Founder of Wellness Workdays. “Strong Minds, Safe Sites is about meeting workers where they are, reducing stigma, and giving construction companies practical, evidence-based tools to care for their people while strengthening safety culture and business longevity.”

The initiative offers a flexible mix of on-site and virtual services including trauma and grief counseling, mental health first aid training, psychological safety education, and workforce engagement initiatives. Employers can choose to avail themselves of individual components or a mix of services depending on the needs of their workforce.

Strong Minds, Safe Sites also emphasizes the business case for employers to invest in the well-being of their workforce. Industry research indicates that companies with effective wellness strategies can expect returns of up to three dollars for every dollar invested, while Wellness Workdays reports even higher returns on its client programs.

Wellness Workdays is launching new wellness solutions for high-risk industries. This move links healthier workers to safer jobs and better organizational performance.
