Pearson and Illinois Tech Partner to Launch Workforce Learning Pathways

Pearson and the Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) have entered into a strategic partnership to investigate ways of enhancing graduates’ employability, providing credentials that mirror industry requirements and AI-powered workforce solutions which are meant to better bridge education and the changing demands of employers. By combining Pearson’s knowledge in education, evaluation and occupational skills with Illinois Tech’s excellence in practical research, technological education, and professional academic training, the collaboration aims at a joint development of programs, identification of sector-specific needs, finding industry-related applications, and AI-powered workforce training at scale. With an initial emphasis on healthcare nursing medical imaging, and allied health professions, the companies’ research will also assess dual enrolment and dual credit models for the high school students, the training for the workforce, and the learning programs throughout life.

This partnership has the potential to create more flexible, accessible pathways for learners at every stage of their education and careers.” Pearson Higher Education President Tom ap Simon said, “AI is transforming the skills employers need and the way people learn throughout their careers,” while highlighting the opportunity to create pathways that connect in-demand skills and credentials with career outcomes. The partners will also evaluate Illinois Tech’s skills assessment framework, stackable certificates, micro-credentials, executive education, and employer-aligned learning experiences, potentially expanding workforce development opportunities across the U.S. and select international markets.
